Commercial ADA Wheelchair Ramps Built for Real-World Access
The EZ-ACCESS PATHWAY HD is a heavy-duty modular aluminum ramp system made for commercial wheelchair access. It gives businesses, schools, churches, medical offices, stages and modular buildings a code-compliant entrance without the cost, mess and wait of poured concrete or a custom wood build. Choose a ready-to-ship Solo Kit for a straight run, or use Custom Design to lay out platforms, switchbacks and a second ramp section for higher entrances.
Each PATHWAY HD ramp has a 48 in. usable width, a 1,000 lb weight capacity, 4 in. edge curbs and handrails on both sides. The welded aluminum frame and non-skid walking surface stand up to rain, sun and daily foot traffic year after year with almost no maintenance.
Why Facilities Choose PATHWAY HD
- Built to code: designed to meet ADA, IBC and OSHA requirements for width, slope, edge protection and handrails.
- Heavy-duty capacity: 1,000 lb rating handles power wheelchairs, mobility scooters and attendant-assisted use.
- Wider than the minimum: 48 in. of usable width, well above the 36 in. ADA minimum between handrails.
- Low maintenance: welded aluminum will not rust, rot, warp or splinter like steel or wood.
- Fast installation: surface-mounted and bolt-together with basic tools - no excavation or concrete work.
- Relocatable: take it apart and move it when a lease ends or a portable classroom relocates.
- Fully modular: add platforms, turns, a second ramp run or matching ADA stairs as your site requires.
Two Ways to Order
1. PATHWAY HD Solo Kits
Solo Kits are preconfigured packages that include a 5x5 top platform and a straight ADA ramp in even lengths from 6 to 30 ft. Pick your ramp length and handrail style and the kit ships with everything needed to assemble it in the pictured configuration. Solo Kits are the fastest way to add access to a single door, modular office or portable classroom.
2. Custom Design
Custom Design lets you build the exact layout your entrance needs:
- Top platform (optional): 5x5, 6x6, 5x10 (two 5x5) or 6x12 (two 6x6)
- First ramp run: 6 to 30 ft, starting at the top of the ramp
- Intermediate platform (optional): 5x5, 6x6, 5x10 or 6x12 for resting points, 90-degree turns and 180-degree switchbacks
- Second ramp section (optional): 6 to 30 ft for entrances higher than 30 in.
- Total rise and layout notes: enter your rise in inches and any site details so our team can confirm the configuration before it ships

How to Size an ADA Ramp
The ADA allows a maximum ramp slope of 1:12, which means at least 1 foot of ramp for every 1 inch of rise. Measure the total rise from the ground to the top of the threshold or landing, then use the chart below. A single ramp run can rise no more than 30 in., so higher entrances need an intermediate landing and a second ramp section.
| Total rise | Minimum ramp length at 1:12 | Typical PATHWAY HD layout |
| 6 in. | 6 ft | 6 ft run |
| 10 in. | 10 ft | 10 ft run |
| 12 in. | 12 ft | 12 ft run |
| 18 in. | 18 ft | 18 ft run |
| 24 in. | 24 ft | 24 ft run |
| 30 in. | 30 ft | 30 ft run (maximum single run) |
| 36 in. | 36 ft | 30 ft run + intermediate platform + 6 ft run |
| 48 in. | 48 ft | 24 ft run + intermediate platform + 24 ft run |
Ramp lengths are walking-surface lengths and do not include platforms. For the full rules on landings, handrails and edge protection, read our ADA Ramp Slope guide.
Platforms and Landings
The ADA requires a level landing at least 60 in. long at the top and bottom of every ramp run, and a landing at least 60 in. by 60 in. wherever a ramp changes direction. The PATHWAY HD 5x5 platform meets that minimum. Choose the 6x6 for more room at doors that swing out onto the landing, or the 5x10 and 6x12 double platforms for wide turns, two entry doors or busy entrances.
Handrail Options
- Two-Line handrails: a clean, economical design for most commercial entrances.
- Vertical Picket handrails: add guard protection and a finished look.
Both styles are installed on both sides of the ramp.
Over 30 in. high? Building codes typically require vertical picket (guard) handrails where the ramp or platform sits more than 30 in. above the ground. If you are unsure which your project needs, check with your local building official or call our team at 866-491-1110.
Add Matching ADA Stairs
Many facilities need stairs as well as a ramp. EZ-ACCESS PATHWAY HD ADA Compliant Stairs are available from 18 in. to 60 in. high and attach directly to a PATHWAY HD platform, giving visitors a choice of ramp or steps from the same landing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are PATHWAY HD ramps ADA compliant?
Yes. PATHWAY HD ramps are designed to meet ADA, IBC and OSHA requirements, with a 48-inch usable width, 4-inch edge curbs, handrails on both sides and a 1:12 slope when the ramp is sized correctly for your rise. Final compliance depends on choosing the right length and installing per the instructions, so check with your local building official if your project requires an inspection.
How long does an ADA ramp need to be?
The ADA allows a maximum slope of 1:12, which means at least 1 foot of ramp for every inch of rise. A 20-inch rise needs at least a 20-foot ramp. A single ramp run can rise no more than 30 inches, so higher entrances need an intermediate landing and a second ramp section.
What if my entrance is higher than 30 inches?
Use the Custom Design option to add an intermediate platform and a second ramp section from 6 to 30 feet. For example, a 36-inch rise can be covered with a 30-foot run, a 5x5 intermediate platform and a 6-foot second run. Call 866-491-1110 and our ramp specialists will lay it out for you at no charge.
What is the difference between a Solo Kit and a Custom Design?
A Solo Kit is a preconfigured package with a 5x5 top platform and a straight ramp from 6 to 30 feet. Custom Design lets you choose the top platform size, the first ramp run, an intermediate platform and an optional second ramp section for switchbacks, turns and higher rises.
Which platform size do I need?
The ADA requires a level landing at least 60 inches long at the top and bottom of every ramp run and a landing at least 60 by 60 inches wherever the ramp changes direction. The 5x5 platform meets that minimum. The 6x6, 5x10 and 6x12 platforms give more room for door swings, turns and multiple users.
Should I choose two-line or vertical picket handrails?
Two-line handrails are a clean, economical choice for most commercial entrances. Vertical picket handrails add guard protection and are typically required by building code where the ramp or platform sits more than 30 inches above the ground. Both styles are installed on both sides of the ramp.
What is the weight capacity of a PATHWAY HD ramp?
PATHWAY HD ramps support up to 1,000 lbs, enough for heavy power wheelchairs, mobility scooters and attendant-assisted use.
What comes with a PATHWAY HD ramp?
Every order includes the ramp sections, handrails, support legs, transitions and hardware needed for the configuration you choose. Solo Kits also include a 5x5 top platform. Matching PATHWAY HD ADA stairs are sold separately.
Do I need a contractor to install it?
No. PATHWAY HD ramps are surface-mounted and bolt together with basic hand tools, so most facility or maintenance teams can install them. No excavation or concrete work is required, and the ramp can be taken apart and relocated later.
Can PATHWAY HD ramps be used with modular or portable buildings?
Yes. PATHWAY HD is a popular choice for modular offices, portable classrooms, job-site trailers, churches, schools and stages because it installs quickly and relocates easily when the building moves.
How fast will my ramp ship, and is shipping free?
Yes, ground shipping is free to the contiguous United States. Delivery is estimated at 3 to 5 business days. Larger orders ship by truck and may require a signature and a delivery appointment.
What warranty and return policy apply?
PATHWAY HD ramps include a 3-Year Warranty. All orders are covered by the Express Ramps 30-day return policy. Free shipping does not include return shipping.
PATHWAY HD ramps are designed to meet ADA, IBC and OSHA requirements when sized and installed correctly. Local codes vary, so confirm requirements with your local building official before installation.
