Are the ramps suitable for both residential and commercial use?
Commercial products have to meet ADA ramp code, while residential applications are less restrictive and allow for a larger selection of mobility products. Our ADA compliant ramps are expertly designed for use in commercial environments. Choose Expressramps.com for ADA-compliant products that can be customized for your exact needs, with professional support every step of the way.
How do I choose the right ramp?
To choose the right ramp, measure the height you need to overcome, match the ramp to your mobility device, confirm the weight capacity, decide between a portable or permanent ramp, and check your space. For commercial use, the ADA requires a slope of no more than 1 inch of rise for every 12 inches of ramp.
- Measure the height to overcome. Measure the vertical rise from the ground to the entry point, straight up and down. This determines the ramp length needed for a safe incline. At the ADA 1:12 slope, every inch of rise needs one foot of ramp, so a 24-inch rise needs a 24-foot ramp.
- Consider the mobility device. Electric wheelchairs and scooters can typically handle steeper inclines than manual wheelchairs or walkers. Manual wheelchair users who go up the ramp on their own need the gentlest slope.
- Check the weight capacity. Choose a ramp that supports the combined weight of the user, the mobility device, and any assistant or equipment. Most of our ramps support up to 800 lbs.
- Decide on portable or permanent. Choose a portable ramp for travel, a semi-permanent ramp for occasional use, or a fixed modular ramp for long-term accessibility. For businesses, we offer a selection of ADA-compliant access solutions .
- Evaluate the space and environment. Consider the available space, doorway widths, and whether the ramp will be used indoors or outdoors. All of our ramps are weather-resistant, have non-skid surfaces for traction, and are suitable for indoor or outdoor use.
- Get an expert recommendation. Use our Ramp Wizard to enter your measurements and requirements, and we'll recommend the ramp that fits your needs.
